Supporting the Ngaringga Ngurra Healing Program

Grounded Impact has worked alongside Ngaringga Ngurra to support the development of the Ngaringga Ngurra’s “Sisterhood” Healing Program.

Our role focused on refining and strengthening an emerging program model that was already grounded in local leadership and women’s voices. Through targeted workshops and practical working sessions with staff, we helped clarify the program’s purpose, structure, and intended outcomes.

Strengthening evaluation and internal systems

We worked with local women and the Ngaringga Ngurra team to develop a simple, culturally grounded evaluation framework and tools that could be embedded into everyday practice. This included:

  • Clear outcome areas aligned with local definitions of healing

  • Practical reflection and feedback tools

  • Straightforward tracking processes to support reporting requirements

The emphasis was on developing practical, actionable systems that are culturally safe and grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing. These tools are manageable, owned by the organisation, and support accountability and continuous learning without creating unnecessary burden.

Alongside this, we provide ongoing capacity-building support to strengthen documentation processes, clarify roles, and build confidence in monitoring and reporting.

“It has not felt like consultants coming in to tell us what to do. Fran walked alongside us, listened deeply, and respected that this work is grounded in our women and our culture. The support has been practical and respectful, focused on building our strength.” Sandra Butters, Ngaringga Ngurra Manager

As the program evolved, Ngaringga Ngurra invited us back to develop a Staff Induction Manual for the Ngaringga Ngurra Safe House, their women’s shelter in Halls Creek that provides crisis accommodation and support for women and children experiencing family and domestic violence. This manual will be designed to support consistent onboarding and ensure new team members understand the cultural foundations, service expectations, and practical ways of working safely and effectively from the outset.

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to culturally grounded practice, practical systems, and strengthening local capability over time.
